Choosing The Right Puppy For You
We know our puppies the best because we spend the most time with them. As a result, we will guide you towards the puppy that best fits your family’s needs and lifestyle. We usually pick out the working prospects first based on drives, energy, and confidence combined. We will get a few we would look at first for the working homes and then figure out the rest and who should go where based on family lifestyle and expectation. Usually we do not even start to think about placements until 6 weeks at the earliest and after 7 weeks at the latest. We know it is difficult to wait but it is really important to make the best match for each family and puppy. You would not want a puppy who was unhappy with you because he wanted a job and you were not providing that and you wouldn’t be happy with a puppy who had excess energy and a genetic need to work. All that said, it is totally possible for a committed owner to handle working line puppies as pets as long as they realize there is a daily exercise and training commitment that should be met. Exercising both mind through training and body through play or other activities will result in a tired dog and a tired dog is a good dog. When we start to get a feel for which puppies will be available to your family we will begin taking puppy specific videos to send to you. If you have a choice between 2 or 3 pups that would suit your family, we will then make the final choice together. We will do any specifics tests on the puppy you would like us to do, for example – such as testing prey drive, reaction to gunfire, environmental stability etc.
